Winston Reid Wiki/Bio

Born on July 3, 1988, Winston Wiremu. He is a professional footballer from New Zealand who most recently served as a defender for West Ham United in the Premier League. Winston led the New Zealand team as its captain. He has also represented Midtjylland while on loan to Sporting KC and Brentford. Winston’s parents are both of Mori descent. Through his mother and father, he is connected to Te Rarawa and Tainui, respectively. He was up in Auckland’s North Shore and began playing football at the age of four for the neighbourhood team Takapuna.

His mother and Danish stepfather migrated the family from New Zealand to Denmark when he was 10 years old, but he never lost touch with his father and his New Zealand relatives. With SUB Snderborg, He entered a youth contract. Reid, who was 16 at the time, signed a three-year youth contract with FC Midtjylland in 2004 to join their academy. Along with fellow Midtjylland colleagues Simon Kjr, Jesper Weinkouff, and Christian Sivebaek, he was one of the first players to graduate from FCM’s football academy, the first of its kind in Denmark.

Winston, who progressed through the system, assisted the U19 in capturing their first U19 Danish championship. Reid entered into a professional agreement with FC Midtjylland in November 2005. He made his FC Midtjylland debut in the same month against Norwegian team Vlerenga in the Royal League event, winning 4-0. On November 27, 2005, in a 2-2 tie with SnderjyskE, Reid made his league debut for FC Midtjylland, starting the game. He played for 60 minutes until being replaced. The next time he played for the team was in a 2-0 victory against Aarhus GF on March 19, 2006, when he entered as a substitute in the 88th minute.

A few first-team games were then given to Reid during the close of the 2005–06 campaign, which resulted in his making nine team appearances. Reid take part in the first three league games of the 2006–07 campaign before suffering an injury that sidelined him. After missing three games due to injury, he returned on September 10, 2006, in a 2-0 victory over Silkeborg as a 76th-minute substitute. Reid eventually made a full recovery, but it was only temporary because he missed two months due to a second injury. Later, at the end of the season, Reid made appearances with the first team intermittently.

By the end of the season, he had made 11 appearances across all leagues. Winston and Midtjylland agreed to an extension of their contract prior to the 2007–2008 season, keeping him there until 2012. On August 8, 2007, he made his first appearance of the year against AaB and contributed to the team’s 2-1 victory. For the following three months, Reid was consistently on and off the first team. He missed the majority of the season due to injury, though, thus he wasn’t in the starting lineup. By the end of the season, Reid had participated in nine games across all competitions.
