Aimee Lou Wood Wiki/Bio
Aimée Lou Wood is an English actress who was born on 3 February 1994. Following small parts on stage in Mary Stuart (2016–2017) and People, Places, and Things (2017), Wood made her screen debut on Netflix’s Sex Education (2019–present), for which she was nominated for two British Academy Television Awards, including Best Female Comedy Performance. She was nominated for awards for her lead performance in the play Uncle Vanya (2020) and for her roles in the movies The Electrical Life of Louis Wain (2021) and Living (2022).
Wood is a native of Greater Manchester’s Stockport. Her father is a car trader, while her mother is employed with Childline. After her parents’ separation, she attended Cheadle Hulme School and largely kept her native accent. Following a Foundation Course at the Oxford School of Drama, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Acting from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 2017. Lizzie Newell, of Independent Talent Group, is Wood’s agent.
Wood participated in numerous performances while she was a student at RADA, including Vinegar Tom, which was directed by Cressida Brown, and Scuttlers, which was staged under the direction of Hannah Eidinow. She started her acting career in 2016 by working on theatrical performances, making her debut as a handmaiden in the play Mary Stuart, which ran at the Almeida Theatre in London till 2017. After that, she played Laura in the play People, Places, and Things, a part that Wood reprised frequently while on a UK tour.
In the 2019 film Sex Education, Wood makes her acting debut as Aimee Gibbs, the lead character. She also co-stars with Asa Butterfield, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, and Gillian Anderson. She had first gone to the audition for Tanya Reynolds to get the part of Lily, but she took the part of Aimee when it was offered to her. Wood’s performance was praised, and the series went on to get plaudits from critics.
She received both her first honour and her first award from a significant organisation when she won the British Academy Television Award for Best Female Comedy Performance at the 2021 British Academy Television Awards. She was nominated for the award again at the 2022 British Academy Television Awards. Wood has continued to act while working on Sex Education because “I know a lot of screen actors who think they left it too late to go back on stage and now they have really horrible stage fright,” she said.
